My middle child has been obsessed with writing. Just like the older two read everything they lay eyes on, she writes everything she lays eyes on. It is quite the interesting hobby, I must admit. Especially when she proudly shows me a page full of instructions for using one of our appliances - in Spanish. Considering that the older two are messy writers who would much rather NOT, I am encouraged to think that perhaps I finally have a child who cares about handwriting. She is proudly filling a page with her full name at this moment. I thought I'd take advantage of her interest. All my children are so different, and learn so differently. I am constantly reminded of how they process things in ways so unlike each other.
May I never fall into the lazy trap of treating my children equally. We are all unique, and deserve the respect of being treated appropriately. What is affirming to one is meaningless to another. What hurts one might not hurt another. Parenting is such a larger job than I had ever imagined; yet the more I do it, the more I marvel at God and His creation, and thank Him for the opportunities He has given me.
