My favorite season arrived a little earlier than expected this year, but I will not be complaining about that. At least, not unless winter comes early as well. I love the sights and smells of fall. The clear air that lets me see for miles, the smell of dried leaves, the beautiful colors of those leaves, and the sound of them crunching under my feet when I walk all make me love this time of year. Add to that the bounty from the orchards and the smells of fresh apples, apple cider, and cooking pumpkin pie and applesauce, and you have a recipe for delight.
Since the apple trees we inherited with this property are in very sad condition, I am thankful that the local grocery store has had very good sales on apples lately. I have been able to make applesauce and apple butter.
Today we enjoyed a lunch of biscuits with apple butter and jam, sausages, and hot tea. It was such a warm and comforting meal! The baby never ate her biscuits, but simply handed them over for apple butter refills until they were completely soggy, at which point she threw them on the floor and pronounced herself finished with lunch. Thankfully, the rest of us did enjoy our biscuits; I made 3 dozen, and there is not one left!
God has been so gracious and kind to us lately. I could never thank Him enough for loving us and caring for every little detail of our lives. I hope that someday I will have learned to trust Him completely, as I try so hard to do! I am so thankful for the good health He has given my family, the good friends, and the spacious home we now live in. I pray that I am willing to give it all back to Him, should He choose to take it.
I have today, and it is my gift.
