That time of year

It's that time of year when I reevaluate. I look at my goals, and see how my daily schedule is working to meet them. Usually at this point the holidays have wreaked havoc with our homeschooling schedule, and the children (all right, me too) have gotten lazy.
So this is the time of year when I look at what I still want to teach, and decide what might be non-essential. I examine our schedule and see if it needs adjusting. I plan field trips, and try to line things up with when we will be learning about them. We were supposed to be finished for the year before Christmas, but my baby put us further behind than I had expected. I guess I am always overly optimistic about how much time babies require. So now I have to set a realistic goal to be finished by, and work hard to reach it. And since my baby is getting older and more independent all the time, it should be easy enough to finish the new school year by Christmas this year. Of course, I say that knowing that our move (if we find a house) will probably upset our schedule for a few weeks.
Our daily schedule has needed some adjusting. My problem is sticking to it no matter what. I do much better with strict time constraints, but sometimes that means that things don't get done, and I have to not let that bother me. I thrive with structure, but am absolutely no good at making and keeping my own structure. I need outside help, which is one of the ways that my husband helps me. He is a wonderful helper and encourager with homeschooling.
And now I must do a reading lesson.:-)
